Local Law Enforcement
Around fifty vehicles have been smeared with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm police.
Cars, walls and postal boxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement say they were alerted late on Wednesday evening, when a individual noticed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish-hued fluid.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a swastika, they added.
Police then found multiple other smeared cars and house walls in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are illegal in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Police state initial examinations show the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any injuries in connection with the incident," they stated.
Local authorities said they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for information.
A senior official said the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved rapidly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reopens the wounds of the far-right terrorist attack five years ago," he wrote on online, mentioning the murder of nine people by a assailant focusing on residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
